Desired Artist Quality

I have described some styles and named a few artists. Ideally, I would want to work with artists of that caliber; realistically, I understand that this project is more likely to attract a more unproven type of artist.

If this project is to succeed (and especially if it is to have any chance of being sold to a publisher), it must be as professional-looking as possible, and there is a certain level of skill that must be attained.

Because I cannot afford to hire professional-level artists outright, I must be willing to settle for less than the ideal, so even if you are no Amanda Conner, you may still be good enough to work on this comic.

However, there is a certain minimum benchmark of ability that a prospective artist must meet: you should be able to draw at least as good as me to expect to work on this book. Visit my site to see examples of my artwork.

The logic is simple: if I can draw better than you, then I might as well draw the story myself. There is further logic involved: if I have not as yet been able to sell myself effectively as an illustrator, then I would be even less likely to be able to sell to a publisher someone who doesn't meet my own level of skill.

I hope any applicant who is rejected on the basis of skill will understand that such decisions are not made out of malice or scorn, but from sheer business necessity.
