What Artists Should Have Ready

You must be able to show me that you can do sequential artwork - that is, that you can actually lay out a story in manga/comic form.

A nice pin-up does not always equal good storytelling. You should be able to provide samples of comic-type artwork, not just pinups. I may be able to assist with breakdowns and layouts if your art is attractive enough otherwise, but I'd have to really like your work to do that.

If you would prefer to work on only one aspect of a story or stories (such as inking or toning or backgrounds) you must be able to provide examples of your work that show how you perform what you want to do. A pencil-drawn picture does not show me how well you ink or tone. (However, a pencil-drawn picture along with an image of the same picture after you've inked it would be an excellent way to see how well you ink.)

It would help if you can demonstrate your ability to work within a reasonable deadline. While I understand that most artists will have day jobs and paying assignments that take priority, at the same time it does me no good to wait a full year for a 20 to 25 page installment of a story. I can be patient for a good artist, but I can't wait forever.
